Pursuit of happiness in a marriage (Part 1)

November 30th, 2006

Tying the perfect knot

Happiness is a precious gift. The pursuit of happiness should direct one to look within oneself and to the love that surrounds us. Happiness means well-being, sound health, and calm mind. Man is a social being and in spite of the nuclear society we live in today, all our relationships make us what we are. And one of the most important of them all is the institution of marriage. Marriage means commitment, love and understanding. More often than not the pursuit happiness ends in marriage.

Marriage is a firm bonding based on love, passion and sexual desire. Each equally important in its own sphere as we know that life should have a complete balance of love and commitment.  Marriage is an ultimate commitment of life to peruse the natural way to attain happiness.

Pursuit of happiness through a marriage however is an individualistic view. While even half a century earlier marriage was the ultimate goal, the contemporary world has seen a drastic change in the way relationships are viewed. While marriage is still a revered institution it is no longer a respectability and recognition mandate, especially for women. Both genders today are equally ambitious and successful which makes the pursuit for happiness all the more definitive.

The Magic Of Love

November 29th, 2006

True Love is a profound feeling of strong attraction or affection. Love is the route to authentic happiness. George Sand beautifully expressed that, “there is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved.” Many consider love to be blind, as love sees no boundaries of caste, creed, age, sex or religion. It is sacred and unselfish. However, Will Moss is of the opinion that “Love is not blind - It sees more and not less, but because it sees more it is willing to see less.”

Love has been interestingly compared to a mountain, by Daniel Monroe Tuttle, which is hard to climb, but once you get to the top, the view is beautiful and brings authentic happiness to our hearts. Love is the true key to authentic happiness. Love is a language the dumb can speak, a wonderful sight that the blind can see and a harmonious song that the deaf can hear. It is the greatest joy in the world that cannot be compared to the most expensive gems or jewels. Love is priceless and free. Love can bring authentic happiness and a smile to the most hard-hearted people. There is nothing or no one in life that love cannot change.

Love Leads To Authentic Happiness

November 28th, 2006

Love is the symbol of optimism, sanguinity and authentic happiness. Love brings a ray of hope to the people who have lost everything in life. It helps us build our confidence when we are down in the dumps, and have faced tremendous failures. It helps us reach or achieve our goal in life or in our career by boosting our poise. Love helps us get rid of all the negative energy around us and look at life in a positive and optimistic way, through which we can achieve authentic happiness. Crystal Middlemas correctly believes that “Love, like a river, will cut a new path whenever it meets an obstacle.”

The Bible rightly expresses that love never fails. It always protects us, always brings a beam of hope, it always perseveres, always trusts and most importantly it never fails to lead us to authentic happiness.

The simplest way to achieve authentic happiness is by always being surrounded by people you love. When you are around your loved ones, it gives you a sense of belonging which can buffer you from stress. In addition to that carving out as much time as you can spend with people you value, gives you a support system for when your luck heads south.

Research at the University of Illinois, Unites States of America, has found that people who are consistently very happy have stronger romantic and social relationships than unhappy people. Your loved ones will always encourage you, give you the strength to fight against your failures, persuade and push you to reach your goals, and help solve all your troubles and problems. This proves how important it is to be around the people you love. This is an ideal route to authentic happiness.

Achieving happiness in relationship (Part B)

November 22nd, 2006

Happiness can be the simplest thing to achieve. Unfortunately we have forgotten how to be happy. Man has made tremendous progress in the last two hundred years, and our lives have suddenly morphed into a fast paced race to outwit and win over one another. We are constantly competing with each other even in the simplest of relationships that we share like friendship or love. If we have to learn how to be happy, we have to learn to love unconditionally. Trust, respect, appreciation and patience are vital aspects of a relationship. Once both the people in a relationship are happy, they would discover how to be happy in a relationship.

Happiness in relationships does come from the knowledge of how to be happy. We often tend to be neglectful about our personal relationships due to the demands of our profession. We must remember that to be happy with our lives we should be dedicated equally towards our career as well as our personal lives. Happy relationships can only be achieved when we actively search how to be happy together and strive towards it.

Achieving happiness in relationships (Part A)

The most crucial criteria of how to be happy is to work towards keeping the relationship healthy. But, this target cannot be achieved alone. Everybody involved in the relationship has to co-operate with each other to make their relationship successful.

Be it in any relationship, the most common complaints today about unhappiness is the lack of effective communication. Whether it is a formal relationship between a boss and subordinates or the co-workers or an informal relationship between friends, family and loved ones. The thoughts and demands of person often do not get across clearly. We have lost the knowledge of how to be happy. There lies a huge gap between the actual idea and the message sent across. A lot gets overlooked due to the lack of patient hearing. It not only helps us in understanding each other better but also makes the communicator feel important.

The true meaning of togetherness

November 20th, 2006

We crave to be in a happy relationship. But we know little about how to be happy in our relationships. Seldom do we find a person claiming to know the tricks of how to be happy with his relationship perpetually. Our demands from our relationships are never ending. Our wants are not steady and we seek new goals everyday. Thus, our fluctuating desires prevent us from being completely happy. It is a vicious cycle which leads to more confusion and sometimes depression.

Eudaimonia (Greek: εὐδαιμονία) is a classical Greek word which means ‘happiness’. Etymologically, it consists of the word “eu” (”good” or “well being”) and “daimōn” (”spirit” or “minor deity”).Thus, happiness is a blissful state of mind.

It is we who choose how to be happy or not to be happy. Therefore we should maintain transparency in our relationships and appreciate every moment that we have with our friends, family and fellow beings.

Tips on how to achieve of happiness

November 17th, 2006

The first and foremost thing is to be peaceful. We should have a clear heart, and should not involve ourselves in petty politics, or demeaning others behind our back. We should have a clear conscience, and do only those things which we think are correct. The worst possible thing that one can do is to lie to oneself, and one can never achieve the art of happiness in such a way.

Art of happiness can also only be achieved if one is not greedy for more. In today’s world, we are never satisfied or happy with what we have; we constantly want more and this cycle never stops. Therefore, in order to master this art of happiness, we should be happy with what we have, and not crave for more than what we can achieve. We should appreciate our life and be grateful for whatever God has bestowed upon us.

One can realize that it is easy to achieve happiness by simply respecting others. If we do not respect our elders, our family members, our colleagues, and fellow human beings, we can never learn the art of happiness. The key to art of happiness lies with you. Only your actions and good deeds will help you learn and appreciate this art of happiness.
